An image of the WAD clan logo

I was the Founding member of an ANZ gaming community called ... WAD

This community was started by a group of dads and grandads who were looking for a server on the internet, where we could play with our kids AND without all the dickheads that you usually find there. The founding members all started contributing $10AU per month and we then rented our first DoD 1.3 server - all paying members were administrators and that concept persists until this day.

One of our founding members, DarkHackii, donated 10 copies of "COD4" and we then held our first game give-away competition. This idea led to another, where the clan considered buying a few Steam Games and allowing our members to borrow them. I approached Steam with this idea and suggested that it may be similar to their netcafe concept, but I was told politely to 'piss off' :(

The idea stuck in my mind and I started experimenting with "auto" login to steam and discovered it was possible to do this. I then went and learnt about SSL and created a working prototype of the system where a client program, running on a member's PC, could contact our server and automatically kick off any of their "Steam Accounts" and thus play any of their 'games' using just one username and password.

Due to legalities - I'll only say this
VNetCafe lets you access all your Steam accounts through a centralised point. It lets your kids use your accounts without them gaining access to your steam passwords. You may have many Steam Accounts, but you only ever need to remember one username and password. Legalities may stop you lending your account - but, that's your choice. VNetcafe will soon be available as peer-peer. VNetCafe is free to join and use. Suitable for families of gaming enthusiasts. If you don't have a Steam account create one or better still - create many - one game in each. Then all your kids can play one game each at the same time. But, we do recommend that you sign up to Steam and look for their great specials. Enjoy your gaming.

I'd like to see Valve/Steam sue me for lending my games to my kids!

This is a first cut and probably not too secure from hackers - but I will work on that. Additionally, we do not charge for this service but it currently is only available to our financial members and their families.

    cheers OldFart

I am currently an unemployed 'ancient' embedded analyst/programmer who is now also using XHTML, PHP, MySQL, C++, C on Win32 and Apache, plus protocols HTTP, SSL, TCP/IP - on this project. - Any job offers? ;)
